
Born and raised in London, Naomi Smith (she/they) is a final year PhD student at Birkbeck, University of London, researching television news, intersectionality, and LGBTQ+/Black/Indigenous representation.
They currently work as Events Coordinator for the Birkbeck Institute for the Study of Antisemitism, and previously worked as a journalist covering film, media and gaming; politics; and law.
Naomi recently edited a special issue of Birkbeck’s postgraduate ‘Dandelion Journal’ on intersectionality in the arts.
In 2018, they graduated from Birkbeck with an MA in Investigative Journalism and with a BA in Archaeology and Ancient History from Durham University in 2013.
Naomi is currently working on their first book, which will discuss transgender representation in American television news.
